Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Ingredients

For meatballs:

  • 500 grams ground pork
  • 1 piece medium size onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chopped spring onions
  • 1 piece egg
  • 1/4 cup MAYA All-Purpose Flour
  • salt and pepper to taste

For sweet and sour sauce:

  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup banana catsup
  • 2 tablespoons MAYA Cornstarch
  • 1 cup water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 piece white onion sliced
  • 1 piece bell pepper julienne
  • 1/4 cup carrots julienne

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix ground pork, onion, spring onion, egg, and flour. Add salt and pepper to taste. Mix well and set aside inside the fridge for 30 minutes to an hour. Form meat mixture into medium sized balls.
  2. Heat oil in a medium-sized pot over medium heat. Deep fry meat balls in batches for 2 to 3 minutes or until brown. Drain excess oil using a paper towel. Repeat until all the meat balls are cooked. Serve together with sweet and sour sauce.

For Sweet and Sour sauce:

  1. In a medium-sized pot, mix vinegar and sugar. Boil over medium heat, then add banana catsup. In a separate bowl, mix cornstarch and water to make a slurry, then add it to the vinegar mixture. Salt and pepper to taste. (Adjust sweetness or sourness by adding more sugar or vinegar to suit taste.)
  2. Add onion, bell pepper, and carrots. Let it simmer for a while. Turn-off heat and serve on the side with fried meat balls.
