Fried Mozzarella Sticks

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup MAYA All-Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 cup MAYA Cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon onion powder
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 pieces eggs
  • 3/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • pizza sauce or marinara sauce for serving

Instructions

  1. Cut the cheese into sticks that are about 1 ½ inch long and ½ inch thick. Set aside.
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. Mix well. Set aside.
  3. Beat eggs small shallow bowl. Set aside.
  4. Dredge the cut mozzarella sticks into the flour mixture, then dip into beaten egg, and then cover with breadcrumbs, you may repeat the breading procedure to coat the mozzarella sticks better. Do not fry right away, instead put the breaded mozzarella sticks in the freezer for an hour or so.
  5. Heat about 1/4 inch of oil in a medium skillet over medium heat. Fry a few sticks at a time for 1 - 2 minutes per side, watching carefully if they start to melt into the oil, then remove to paper towel lined plate.
  6. Serve with warm marinara sauce if desired.
