Ready to Go

The long break is almost over and now that you’ve had a few days to relax, it’s time to get back to your daily duties of preparing baon for the kids.

That’s why we’ve come up with three easy recipes for nutritious and delicious packed lunches.

We know giving your kids an allowance to buy their meals is an easy fix, but just how sure are you that they’re getting the nutrition they need from the school canteen?

A good meal can make all the difference when it comes to your kids’ school performance. Nutritious meals give them the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants they need to excel. On the other hand, junk food contains a lot of refined sugars, which can lead to unnecessary weight gain and negatively affect their mood and brain function.

Aside from all the nutritional benefits, taking the time and effort to make your kids packed lunches is a great way for them to feel close to home while they’re away at school. Knowing that mom or dad made them baon makes them feel special—as if you’re there rooting for them all the way as they learn new things and interact with their classmates and teachers.

#1 Breaded Pork Chop with Gravy Steak Sauce

Our pork chop recipe is super kid-friendly: it’s crispy and has a yummy gravy that takes the flavor over the top.

Pork chops can be dry if not cooked properly, but our special marinade makes sure this won’t be the case. Coated with Maya All-Purpose Flour, eggs, and panko breadcrumbs, each bite will be a crunchy one. And let’s not forget that awesome gravy steak sauce we were talking about.

Quick tip: if you want this dish to taste even more home cooked, you can substitute the beef cubes with real beef stock.

Pack this with some rice for a winning lunch combo, or go for a healthier option with brown rice or quinoa.

#2 Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Ah, the goodness of home cooked deep-fried meatballs! How can this recipe get any better? With some sweet and sour sauce, of course!

Our sauce has vegetables, onion, bell pepper, and carrots, upping the recipe’s nutritional value. Drizzle this all over the meatballs or use as a dipping sauce—either way, your kids will love it.

#3 Honey Mustard Chicken Fillet

Not only does this recipe use what is arguably the yummiest part of the chicken—the thighs—it’s also fried to perfection in honey and mustard, making it an interesting and tastier version of every kid’s favorite dish: fried chicken.

Add a healthy sprinkling of parsley and serve with rice and expect a big hug when your kids get home from school!

We at the Maya Kitchen hope that you can try your hand at these simply delicious packed lunches. Let us know which one your kids love the most by commenting below.
