Rainy Days are Here Again

Rainy season has arrived, and while we’re all a bit relieved to get a much-needed break from the extreme heat, you might be thinking about all the little hassles that come with the weather: laundry that refuses to dry, bouts with the flu, and even more traffic!

But—and this is a big BUT—what about all the wonderful things the rain brings? Think perfect bed weather, cool breezes, and the calming sound of raindrops pattering on the windows, not to mention all the countless other things that we love about rain. And for us at The Maya Kitchen, perhaps the best thing about the season is indulging in your favorite comfort food.

That means food that warms your tummy and makes you feel cozy, whether it’s a cup of hot tsokolate or a yummy snack of Ginataan. With your tummy all warmed up, all that’s left is to cozy up with a good book or pass the time with your nearest and dearest.

So here’s the lowdown on two specialties that we cooked up especially for the rainy season.

Nothing warms up a hungry stomach better on a rainy day than a hearty bowl of soup; a comforting steamy broth just filled with goodness. Enter our Misua Soup with Meatballs. The Chinese are very fond of dishes made with misua, which is a thin and fine noodle made from wheat flour that has a slightly salty taste. Combined with a flavorful broth, the meatballs make this an extra hearty dish. It’s a meal in itself, plus it’s made with simple ingredients that are equally simple to prepare.

Next we have our Asian Inspired Congee, which is a spin off of our beloved Arroz Caldo. Like our misua soup, congee is a traditional Chinese dish. Imagine piping hot rice porridge topped with shredded chicken, salted egg, and red onions. It doesn’t get heartier than that!

Now that we’ve given you two more reasons to love the rainy season, we hope you’ll try your hand at making them to serve your family during the wonderful rainy days ahead. You won’t just be warming hungry tummies, you’ll be warming hearts as well.
